North Carolina State senior All-American Savannah Shaw, who has qualified for NCAA Division 1 Championships in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track along with being the creator of Instant Crush Designs, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing Feb. 24-26 in the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships at Virginia Tech. Shaw revisits anchoring the Wolfpack distance medley relay lineup that included Samantha Bush, Jada Griffin and Anna Vess, and finished third Feb. 18 in 11:05.85 at the JDL DMR Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., but elevated to No. 7 on the NCAA rankings this season at 10:58.80 as a result of the 200-meter flat track conversion. She examines North Carolina State's depth in the 3,000 meters, with Kelsey Chmiel, Katelyn Tuohy, Allie Hays, Bush and Shaw all among the top 16 competitors in the country, in addition to Chmiel and Hays both being among the top five in the 5,000 meters. Shaw shares how the Wolfpack has been able to continue its momentum from capturing the program's first NCAA Division 1 women's cross country title Nov. 20 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla., and how the success has provided inspiration for the younger members of the team to excel on the track in preparation for the season next fall. She revisits balancing cross country and indoor track during the winter last year, and reminisces about participating in the DMR final and securing seventh at the Division 1 indoor championship meet at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., before traveling to Stillwater, Okla., to race in the NCAA cross country final, placing 98th to help the Wolfpack finish second overall behind Brigham Young. Shaw also reflects on competing in the Division 1 outdoor 5,000 final and being in the same race when former teammate Elly Henes captured the national title. She also explains her passion for shopping at thrift stores, and how it not only contributes to her own unique style, but helped create the foundation for Instant Crush Designs, which Shaw has developed into her business of printing custom T-shirts in Raleigh.
